Exam awards recognise nation’s top secondary students
The top eight achievers in the 2018-2019 National Best Students Exams for secondary school level were announced in the capital last week.
Eight outstanding secondary school students in Grades 4 and 7 from across the country won first place awards in the national examinations after gaining the highest scores in literature, maths, physics and chemistry.
The students who took out first place in the four main subjects in Grades 4 and 7 each received scholarships worth 10 million kip from the government and local companies, as well as certificates and gold medals for their achievements.
Meanwhile, other second-placed students received 8 million kip, certificates and silver medals and third-placed students got 6 million kip, certificates and bronze medals.
Deputy Minister of Education and Sports, Associate Prof. Dr Khamphay Sisavanh handed over the awards at a ceremony held in Vientiane last week.
The first place award winners in Grade 7 at upper secondary school level included a student from Phonesavanh School in Champassak province, Ms Phoutsavanh Keolodsa, who won for her marks in literature with a score of 7.80, while the winner in maths was a student from Phonesavanh Ethnic School in Vientiane, Mr Beevang Chongdong, with a score of 9.50.
A student from Ethnic Phonesavanh School in Vientiane, Mr Laoyang Yiayee won in the physics category with a score of 9.08, while a student from Santiphab Secondary School in Luang Prabang province, Mr Changmua Xaychoumua, won the chemistry prize with a score of 9.25.
The first place award winners in Grade 4 at lower secondary school level included two students from Niradachomphet School in Vientiane, Ms Phonephaylack Xaysana who won the literature prize with a score of 7.85, and Mr Mackmiphon Xaysana who won in maths with a score of 9.25.
The physics winner with a score of 7.60 was a student from Phouvieng Secondary School in Xieng Khuang province, Mr Tengmua Yiasongmua while a student from Vangvieng Ethnic School in Vientiane province, Mr Thongtho Xaykua, won the chemistry prize with a score of 8.75.
According to the exam organising committee, a total of 144 students in Grades 4 and 7 took part in the annual 2018-2019 National Best Students Exams at secondary level.
