Khammuan to have exciting new tourist attraction

Adventure activities for tourists are planned for Phou Phamarn hill in Khounkham district, Khammuan province, with the project to be undertaken by Green Discovery Laos.
Member of the Board of Directors of the Guide Association, Mr Inthy Deuansavanh, who owns Green Discovery Laos, told Vientiane Times the site already has visitor facilities such as a viewpoint, toilets, and an information centre.
Green Discovery now plans to install zip-lines, a canopy walkway through the trees, and arrange hikes led by guides through forested areas to observe wildlife.

The development will also enable local residents to sell items they make and boost their income. Souvenir shops are planned where people can put their goods on sale.
Authorities are in the process of building the facilities and expect to open them to the public in September, Mr Inthy said.
Phou Phamarn hill is located in Khoun Ngeun village about 10km from the centre of Khounkham district. Road access to the site is good, according to the Khammuan provincial Information, Culture and Tourism Department.
Khammuan province is also home to a plethora of other natural wonders including the caves Tham Nang Aen, Tham Pha Nha, Tham Pha, Tham Konglor and Tham Xebangfai.
Sites such as Kamphengyak, which is otherwise known as the Giant Wall, and the Sangsou and Nam Sanam waterfalls are equally magnificent.
Visitors to Khammuan shouldn’t miss sampling a few of the region’s tasty food and snacks. Khaonompan, which is flour mixed with beans and coconut, khaokhop - a sticky rice cake - and mam, which is pork or beef mixed with onions, chilli and herbs, are especially well known in the area.
Visitors can also buy locally-made goods such as sticky rice baskets made from woven bamboo, as well as clothes and other items made from naturally dyed cotton.
According to Khammuan authorities, the province has 198 officially designated tourist attractions of which 139 are nature-based, 30 are of cultural interest and 29 are historical.
Visitors can choose from 20 hotels, 115 resorts and guesthouses, 171 restaurants and 11 entertainment venues.
The province is about 360km from Vientiane along one of Laos’ better stretches of road.
Last year, more than 400,000 people visited the province, the Khammuan Information, Culture and Tourism Department reported. Further information on the province’s highlights can be obtained from the Khammuan provincial Information, Culture and Tourism Department on 051-213022.
