Medics assess progress at annual gynaecology and obstetrics conference
Ministry of Health officials working in the field of gynaecology and obstetrics met in Vientiane for their annual meeting yesterday to review progress and discuss plans for 2019.
Participants reported on the progress of their activities and shared future plans.
They heard reports on maternal death rates, the modern management of breast cancer, abnormal uterine bleeding, national guidelines for the treatment of sexually transmitted infections, postnatal nutrition in children, guidelines for the prevention of unsafe abortion, and various case studies.
One report noted that difficulties in addressing challenges in regard to treatment are largely based on society’s poor understanding and access to information.
The topics discussed included maternal-fetal medicine, gynaecology oncology, paediatric and adolescent gynaecology, gynaecology surgery, the menopause, midwifery, women’s health, nursing and practitioners, and sexual and reproductive health.
President of the University of Health Sciences, Associate Professor Dr Phouthone Vangkonevilay, spoke at the 12th national conference on obstetrics and gynaecology.
The conference aimed to provide information on diagnosis, treatment and disease prevention, he said.
Participants discussed developments in the field while analysing the progress of past shared activities and plans for cooperation.
The conference was designed to be a unique opportunity to establish a medical scientific network among health experts, with participation by as many people as possible.
Associate Professor Dr Phouthone said the information presented was intended to broaden the knowledge of medical staff in this field with a view to improving the quality of health services.
Participants vowed to continue to improve their knowledge of technical medicine and related fields, and assist each other with personal training.
A senior ministry official said the conference enabled participants to share their experiences of practical health issues relating to international integration in the field.
He said that in recent years, there has been more success with treatments and services in response to the demands of the general public, and healthcare in this field has improved.
