Students broaden knowledge with university challenge quiz
The National University of Laos and the Institute of Legal Support and Technical Assistance are continuing to support students by keeping their general knowledge up to date, enhancing their English language skills, and instilling a love of learning courtesy of the second University Challenge Quiz.
The 2nd University Challenge Quiz took place at the National University of Laos (NUOL) in Vientiane on Wednesday and was attended by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Faculty of Law and Political Science, Mr Phouvong Vilayseng; Director of Communications at the Institute of Legal Support and Technical Assistance, Mr John Connolly; and students.
This year marked the second University Challenge Quiz, which is supported by the Institute of Legal Support and Technical Assistance in partnership with the Asian Law Students’ Association-Laos under the NUOL.
The quiz was conducted entirely in English with contestants battling it out to answer questions on a variety of subjects. There were more than 150 students from various institutions, mostly from the NUOL and colleges in Vientiane.
The contest is an educational event which aims to promote students’ knowledge and learning skills through extracurricular activities. The quiz encompasses a spectrum of subjects - specifically about Laos, world current affairs, world history, geography, science and art.
The event is a perfect platform for students to broaden their knowledge even as they simultaneously polish their quizzing skills. In addition, the quiz is an incentive to increase students’ enthusiasm in learning outside the classroom so as to promote their engagement in extracurricular activities.
In an increasingly interconnected world, it is important that Lao university students have an interest in and knowledge of world affairs and the global culture.
The competition offered students the opportunity to display both their knowledge and use of English language in reading and speaking.
The winner of the 2nd University Challenge Quiz was the Sunflower Team, comprising Ms Bouasomphu Sonepanyasai from the International Relations Department, Faculty of Law and Political Science, and Ms Thalina Lertlivanh and Ms Silivanh Arounsavath, both from the Economics Development and Planning Department, Faculty of Business Management.
