Health authorities will continue to collaborate with international organisations and the local population to monitor the global and national situation regarding the possibility of a Zika virus (ZIKV) outbreak.
At present, even though it has not been officially reported in Laos, health authorities are gearing up to combat any potential outbreak of the virus.

Groundwork for Champassak embankment making good progress
A huge effort is being made to build the foundations of an embankment along the Mekong River in central Pakxe district, Champassak province.
The embankment is part of the US$65.6-million Mekong River Integrated Management Project (MRIMP), which got underway in December last year. Project Director Mr Khamphan Simmala told Vientiane Times yesterday that construction of the whole project is now more than 10 percent complete. ...More >>>

The Vientiane Commission for the Advancement of Women and Mother and Child Affairs has launched new guidelines to help officials in their work to reduce gender-based violence in Laos. The commission, under the Vientiane Women’s Union, said the new guidelines aim to improve the knowledge and understanding of police and women’s union officials about the new requirements for registering reports of domestic violence.
