Mismanagement of state budget funds uncovered
Laos is facing issues in managing its state budget, with billions of kip unaccounted for, an official said during a meeting of the Vientiane People’s Council last week.
The President of the Central Region Audit Office No.1, Mr Khammone Bouaphanh, revealed that 4.77 billion kip had not been transferred to the official state budget.Of this, 3.62 billion kip was spent outside the national budget system, and 1.15 billion kip remains in unauthorised treasury deposits, he said.
Mr Khammone identified several factors responsible for these discrepancies, including weak enforcement of the law, poor cooperation among budget units, and delays in adjusting revenues and expenses.
