- Govt approves allowances for officials in rural communities
A special policy introduced by the government will provide supporting allowances for state officials working in rural communities. Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh recently inked a government decree on the policy for officials and civil servants working in rural and deprived communities. The nine-page decree defines three levels of hardship hardest (level I), harder (level II) and hard (level III). The allowance to be provided will depending on the level of hardship.
Officials working in communities with the hardest conditions will be paid an additional 30 percent of their monthly salary. . ..More >>>

- Authorities highlight need for improved civil registration statistics
Lao authorities say work in the field of statistics can benefit from cooperation with development partners such as the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Closer cooperation would improve the compilation of essential statistics and the circulation and usage assessment of the civil registration vital statistics (CRVS) system.

- Ministry reports sharp drop in dengue fever cases
A total of 428 cases of dengue fever were recorded in the first six months of this year, compared to 1,081 cases reported last year from December 1, 2019, to May 12, 2020.
This year’s cases were recorded from December 26 to June 20, with Attapeu province reporting the highest number.
No one is known to have died from dengue fever this year, while two people died in the first five months of last year, when Vientiane and Xayaboury provinces recorded the highest number of cases. ...More >>>

- Xayaboury speeds up repairs to flood-damaged schools
  Authorities in Xayaboury province are working to repair the damage caused to school buildings following widespread flooding and will provide new materials to replace items damaged by water. Director of the province’s Education and Sports Department, Mr Onta Phommachith, said Xayaboury had suffered severe damage during the recent floods. Ten schools, student dormitories, education offices and almost 100 houses belonging to education staff in Xayaboury district flooded after heavy rain on June 13 and 14, with the damage estimated at more than 1.2 billion kip. ....More >>>
