- Lao, Vietnamese foreign ministers hold talks on bilateral ties
Laos and Vietnam have agreed to enhance cooperation in a wide range of areas during talks between the two countries’ foreign ministers held in Vientiane on Thursday. Vietnam’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bui Thanh Son, is paying an official visit to Laos from April 27-29 at the invitation of his Lao counterpart Saleumxay Kommasith, the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press statement. The two ministers co-chaired the 9th ministerial political consultative meeting and discussed ways to enhance the great relations, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two neighbours. ....More >>>
- Govt agrees in principle to raise minimum wage
The government has agreed in principle to increase the minimum wage in a bid to ease the hardships suffered by many people amid the rising cost of living.
The agreement was reached at the government’s monthly meeting held in Vientiane on April 26-27, chaired by Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh and attended by cabinet members. However, the government has yet to make a decision regarding the exact amount of the pay rise and the timeframe for its rollout.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare was instructed to further discuss the matter with the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (the organisation representing businesses) so that the pay rise can be implemented successfully. ..More >>>
- Ministry, tour operators request full reopening for foreign tourists starting May 1
State authorities and tourism operators have asked the government to reopen the country to the citizens of all countries starting on May 1. The proposal was made following a meeting between the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism and tour operators.
The meeting recommended that tourists must have been fully vaccinated at least 14 days before travel, or have a certificate showing they had contracted Covid earlier. Children under the age of 18 would not be required to have a vaccination certificate. Visitors with a vaccination certificate and children under the age of five would not need to have a RT-CPR test before travelling to Laos, but those without a certificate must take a RT-CPR test less than 72 hours before arriving in Laos. ...More >>> |
