- Govt announces full reopening of Laos starting May 9
The government has announced that all international border crossings will reopen, so that Lao and foreign nationals, well as stateless people, can enter and exit Laos freely.
The Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday (May 7) issued a notice declaring that borders would reopen.
The reopening of Laos and the lifting of restrictions under Notice No. 627 will come into effect on May 9, Head of the Secretariat of the National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, Mrs Thipphakone Chanthavongsa, told a press conference on Saturday. ....More >>>

- Inflation rate closes in on two digits
The year-on-year inflation rate in Laos surged to 9.9 percent in April, the highest figure recorded since January 2016, according to the latest report from the Lao Statistics Bureau.
The consumer price index jumped at its fastest pace in recent months, further putting the squeeze on consumers with more to be paid for food, fuel and other essentials.

The annual cumulative power generation of Nam Ou River cascade hydropower stations, invested and developed by PowerChina, exceeded 1000GWh as of May 1, 2022.
Power generation has reached a new high in the same period since the power stations of the Nam Ou HPP have been put into operation, which contributes to International Labour Day and the 61st anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Laos with such excellent performance. On October 1, 2021, along with the completion and operation of the Nam Ou1,3,4&7 hydropower stations of the Nam Ou HPP, a total of 7 hydropower stations in the Nam Ou River basin have been put into  generation so far.
