Home owner turns house and garden into popular eatery

With so many restaurants opening up in Vientiane it’s becoming harder and harder to make a choice, but one excellent option is the intimate Banmou Café in Sisattanak district.

Banmou Café owner Mr Vilasine Salamany.

This is a great venue for families and groups of friends. The café serves up high quality dishes in a vintage style environment, and is set in the comfortable ambience of the owner’s small house.
Menu highlights are fried saba fish, salads, barbeques, and steak. This charming venue has sparked a lot of interest and a good response from local and foreign customers over the years.
The cafe is owned and managed by Mr Vilasine Salamany, 40, who enjoys both cooking and growing vegetables organically in his garden.
He told Vientiane Times that he opened the café at his house on January 10, 2017. He caters to all types of people - tourists, government officials, private sector employees, and families.
The food is meticulously and cleanly prepared, with special care given to the vegetables that Mr Vilasine grows in his garden. Prices are very reasonable, with steak dishes starting at just 35,000 kip.
The café also serves tasty fruit drinks as well as more exotic concoctions for diners having a party. Banmou is open for dinner from 5pm to 11pm every Tuesday to Saturday.
Prices range from 18,000 kip for fried food to 75,000 kip for beef steak. Customers also can make a reservation for a birthday party or school or office parties, with groups ranging in size from 40-100 accepted.
The eatery usually attracts about 30-50 patrons per day for dinner, with people from all walks of life turning up to enjoy the café’s special ambience.
Mr Vilasine says the cafe has generated a lot of interest since it opened and attracted people from all over Vientiane. Diners have expressed satisfaction with the menu and the service provided by the staff.
One customer, Ms Loukpa Mardmanysone, said she liked the atmosphere and the food at Banmou and goes there for dinner with her friends and family, mainly because of the good food and the reasonable prices.
