Hotel executives wow bosses with professionalism
Mr Peter Nammavong Oudom and Mr Tristan Raclet have proved that professionalism and commitment are more than enough to win over the hearts of customers, colleagues and bosses.
The two young Lao and French employees of Crowne Plaza Hotel, the first international brand name in the hospitality sector of Vientiane, are also a good example of leadership.

Mr Peter and Mr Raclet, both executives, were given the Manager of the Year Award for 2017 by the hotel’s Broad of Directors for their performance, dedication and efforts to develop themselves and their workplace.
Two other employees won the Staff of the Year award.
Mr Peter, the 28-year-old Lao Assistant Marcom Manager, began working at the hotel in July 2016. His main responsibility is marketing and communication. Earlier, he studied economics and administration in Australia in 2011 as a AusAid scholar.
Mr Peter established his own magazine, Muse, in 2014 but parted ways to seek a different job at the Crowne Plaza and was made part of the hotel’s sales and marketing staff.
Mr Raclet, a 24-year-old French national, is currently the Restaurant Manager. He studied hospitality in France and moved to Laos nine months ago.
Mr Raclet said he worked at the hotel as a trainee between May 2017 and November 2017, when he was appointed the Restaurant Manager.
Both executives were surprised to hear at an annual staff party that they would receive the Manager of the Year award. The ceremony was held on January 28, coinciding with the first anniversary of the opening of the hotel. This was also the first time the hotel organised an event to recognise the efforts of its employees.
The executives thought that it was a routine celebration for the staff as nobody was expecting any special announcements.
Mr Peter and Mr Raclet said they were very happy to get the award as it was kept as a surprise for all the 280 employees.
During an interview with Vientiane Times last week, both executives said they did not know about the criteria or standards for the award. However, they said they always paid attention to performing their duties to the best of their abilities every single day so that their bosses could not question their dedication.
The Broad of Directors applied four criteria to choose the best staff members. They were the commitment to the hotel, leadership, good role model and team development.
Mr Peter said he reports to the Director of Sales and Marketing and the General Manager of the Hotel and feels both his bosses are satisfied with his performance. He thought that this may be the reason he was chosen for the award.
A resident of Sisangvone village in Xaysettha district of Vientiane, Mr Peter said he always finds out about the latest developments related to his job by reading and researching. He also comes up with creative ideas to effectively take care of his responsibilities. He also has a strong sense of discipline and always makes sure he is on time.
Mr Raclet said he never expected he would be recognised as a manager of the year but is very proud of the award. He said this will keep him motivated on a daily basis and help him to achieve his targets.
The executives said good teamwork is very important for their success and that their colleagues had pushed them to become a model for everyone in 2017. The recognition of their abilities will be an important motivation for other employees to develop themselves, and this will also support the steady growth of the hotel’s business, they said.
Mr Peter and Mr Raclet, who are on duty from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm from Monday to Friday, have ambitions of rising to higher positions.
Mr Raclet aims to keep growing in management positions and become a Food and Beverage Director, and then a General Manager.
The hotel will soon send them on an all-expenses paid trip to Thailand for three days.
Others can learn from the example of these two executives and try to make a change in their lives so that they can be successful in whatever they do.
