- Laos calls for people-centred development approach at UN meeting
The government’s top priorities are poverty eradication, job creation, and improvement of education and public health services, especially for women, children, people with disabilities, and communities in remote and rural areas. This was the message from Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith when addressing the Second World Summit for Social Development, which took place in Doha, Qatar, from November 4-6. He noted that the poverty rate had decreased significantly from 46 percent in 1993 to 16.87 percent in 2023, demonstrating the government’s continued commitment to improving the well-being of the Lao people. The Deputy Prime Minister said social development is a top priority of the government, as reflected in efforts to promote inclusive growth and improve the living conditions of all citizens. Mr Saleumxay also underlined the importance of strengthening cooperation with development partners, the private sector, and international organisations through mechanisms such as the United Nations Roundtable meeting, to ensure that social development initiatives remain relevant and responsive to current global and national contexts......More>>>

- Australia gives US$1.71 million to boost Mekong monitoring
Australia has provided US$1.71 million to the Mekong River Commission to improve river monitoring and water management across Laos and the Mekong region. The funding was formalised on November 5 at the MRC Secretariat in Vientiane during a ceremony supporting the Environment and River Profile Survey. The programme helps the commission monitor river conditions, forecast changes, and assess the basin’s health, according to an MRC media release.

- Vice President pays respects to Thailand’s Queen Mother
Vice President Pany Yathotou represented Laos in attending a wreath-laying ceremony for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother in Bangkok on November 5. She attended the event on behalf of President Thongloun Sisoulith, the Lao government and people, to honour the late Queen Mother, who passed away on October 24 at the age of 93. The ceremony took place at the Royal Hall of Dusit Maha Prasat, where Her Majesty’s remains lie in state. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, representing His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Rama X, welcomed the Lao delegation.........More>>>
